Corvallis, Oregon native, Talanoa Hufanga was born on 1 Feburary 2000 to Tevita and Tanya Hufanga.

Hufanga first began playing football in the third grade. He grew up following Christianity and would pray for his football team before the game in the locker room. During the first year of college, he was baptized. Hufanga states he plays football to glorify God.

Talanoa’s father, Tevita, is originally from Tonga and settled in San Diego when he was 16 with his parents. His mother, Tanya, is Native American. After, Tevita and Tanya married and had two children: they bought a farm in Corvallis, Oregon. Though the two raised their children in Oregon, their top priority was to take his children to Tonga to understand where their father, and by extension, they themselves, came from.

In 2014, the Hufanfa visited Tonga. Talanoa got to know more family members than he knew existed, went to church, and roasted a pig in the ground.

High School Career

Hufanga enrolled at Crescent Valley High School, where he played football for the school team in safety, quarterback, and wide receiver positions. He was awarded the 2017 Polynesian High School National Player of the Year during his senior season.

In 2018, he played in the U.S. Army All-American Game.

College Career

Hufanga signed with the University of Southern California (USC) for his collegiate football career.

During freshman season, he started five of eight games. However, he suffered a broken collarbone, ending his season short.

The following season he started all 10 games he played as a sophomore. He concluded the season with 90 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

As a junior, he was a starter and won Polynesian Football Player of the Year, Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year, Consensus All-American, and First-team All-Pac 12.

Hufanga forgo his senior season and announced for the 2021 NFL Draft.

NFL Career

At the 2021 NFL Draft, HUfanga was selected with the 180th pick overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round. On 13th May 2021, he signed his first NFL contract, a four-year rookie deal.

He played in 15 games with three starts in his rookie campaign.

In the 2022 season, he had a 52-yard pick-six against the Los Angeles Rams in a 24-9 win. That season, he was the starter of all games for the 49ers. He concluded the season with 97 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 9 passes defended, and 4 interceptions. He was honored with the 2022 First-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl.
