Taipei City, Taiwan native Sheng Wang was born on 9th January 1980 to Taiwanese parents. Later, the Wang family moved to the United States, and Sheng was raised in Houston. He has a sister.

Sheng attended Bellaire High School. And after graduation, in 1998, he went to the University of California, Berkeley, to pursue his Bachelor of Science in Business. During his sophomore year, he joined Theatre Rice, and that was the first time he gave a try for stand-up comedy. Further, he also took poetry and photography classes. So, he realized he was destined to be creative, so he had to make a decision between poetry, photography, or comedy. And all know what he chose. COMEDY!!

Career

Sheng Wang found Comedy the easiest thing to fit into. He says doing stand-up comedy is instant, immediate feedback. Wang describes his career line:

“You write something, present it onstage at night, and know exactly if it’s good or bad.”

In 2002, following his graduation from UC Berkeley, Wang started off his career, delivering his comedy in the open mics in San Francisco.

Wang initially received public recognization in 2007 after his performance at Montreal Comedy Festival.

Further, his career breakthrough became his first thirty-minute special performance on national television, broadcast by Comedy Central Presents on 28th January 2011. That same month, he received top honors, also signing a one-year talent-holding deal at NBC Universal Seventh Annual “Stand Up for Diversity” comedy search.

After that, he appeared in stand-up comedy TV series John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show, Live at Gotham, and Last Comic Standing.

In 2015, Wang collaborated with ABC for their sitcom TV series, Fresh Off the Boat, working as executive story editor behind the camera. Nevertheless, he also gave an on-screen appearance in two episodes of “Hank”.

In 2019, he appeared in the podcast 2 Dope Queens.

In 2022, Sheng Wang starred in Sweet & Juicy, his first Netflix special, directed by Ali Wong.
