Veteran actor John Beasley took his last breath on 30th May 2023 at a hospital in Omaha, following a brief and unexpected illness at the age of 79. Beasley, who kicked off his acting career after his mid-40s, is celebrated for his role as Irv Harper in the TV series Everwood (2002-2006) and Barton Ballentine in The Soul Man (2012-2016).

John Beasley is survived by his wife, Judy, their two sons, Michael and Tyrone, six grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

John Beasley was all set to make a debut on a Broadway-bound track, The Notebook.

John Beasley died on 30th May Tuesday, after being hospitalized in Omaha, Nebraska, with a liver problem, said his son Tyrone Beasley. He died after undergoing testing on his liver.

Beasley’s son Mike was the first to break a formal public statement about the tragic news of John Beasley’s death, calling out his father, his “best friend” and “hero,” in a tribute posted to Facebook.

Later Beasley’s manager Don Spradlin said his demise was a “brief and unexpected illness.”

His grandson, Malik Beasley, an NBA player for Los Angeles Lakers, paid tribute on social handles by sharing a couple of adorable pictures.

Started a career as a railroad employee working for the Union Pacific Railroad, John Beasley always had a love for acting deep inside his heart. Later, he opened the John Beasley Theater & Workshop in Omaha with a vision of making the theater arts “come alive” accessible for more people. Before beginning his acting career, Beasley worked for almost a dozen years there.

In 1990, he made his debut in ABC’s drama series Brewster Place as Mr. Willie. The following year, he appeared as Emie on the big screen in the comedy film V.I. Warshawski. Later, he appeared in various movies, including Rudy (1993), The Apostle (1997), The General’s Daughter (1999), Lost Souls (2000), Walking Tall (2004), and Sinister 2(2015), among others.

Following various TV and film roles, he eventually grabbed a lead role in the TV series Everwood from 2002 to 2006. In 2012, he played Barton Ballentine in season one of The Soul Man and had a recurring role (seasons 2–5). His other notable TV roles include Shots Fired (2017), The Mandalorian (2019), and Your Honor (2021).

Most recently, he was seen in the role of Irv Manders in Firestarter in 2022.

Omaha, Nebraska native John Beasley was born on 26th June 1943 to Grace Beasley & John Beasley. He has a brother named Anthony Beasley.

Beasley attended Omaha Technical High School, where he excelled in football and was a popular athlete. Upon graduation, he enrolled at the University of Omaha in 1964, where he studied until 1968.

Later, Beasley relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and took a job at the mailroom of WFIL-TV. Further, he worked as an assistant producer for The World Around Us, a local children’s program.

Subsequently, he studied, took classes, and interned in Minnesota. With good performance, he was cast in Goodman Theatre productions in Chicago.

Nevertheless, Beasley was engaged as a Railroad clerk for seven years before pursuing a full-time acting career.
