Ilaria Gomez is the adopted daughter of Nia Vardalos and her ex-husband Ian Gomez. The couple adopted Ilaria Gomez back in the year 2008.
The couple spent several years trying to make a baby while also going through several rounds of IVF, multiple failed miscarriages, and unsuccessful surrogacy. Nothing really worked in their favor until they finally were able to match and adopt Ilaria.
Vardalos says that when she first looked at her now-adopted daughter, she fell in love with her at first sight. In an interview with Canadian Living, the screenwriter shared that she always imagined her child to have golden locks of hair. And, when Ian and Nia went for adoption, she instantly thought, “I found you”.
