Durham, North Carolina native Ayesha Rascoe was born on 20th June 1986. Her parents are Robert Rascoe and Phyllis Thorpe Jones.

Rascoe developed an interest in Journalism while enrolling at Carrington Middle School. While attending Southern High School, she eventually earned an opportunity to write for the local newspaper’s teen section covering teen cancer survivors and local teen barrel racing champions. Rascoe used to get paid $50 on each story.

In 2003, she attended Howard University, where she majored in Print Journalism. Also, she served as a writer/editor of the campus newspaper named “The Hilltop.”

NPR has named Ayesha Rascoe host of Weekend Edition Sunday. She has been covering the White House for the network.

In 2008, Ayesha Rascoe joined Thomson Reuters as an Energy Reporter, prominently covering the notorious 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the United States’ response to the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.

In November 2014, she began as Energy and Environment Legal Correspondent. Two years later, she saw herself as a White House Correspondent in Thomson Reuters, where she covered the Obama White House

In 2018, she was hired by NPR as their White House Correspondent. In March 2022, NPR introduced Rascoe as their new Host of NPRs Weekend Edition Sunday.

Nobody at NPR ever came to me and said, You need to be a little more polished on the radio. I do have a voice that is distinct. I sound like a Black woman from the South. Very easily, someone could have come to me and said, Hey, I think you need to clean that up a bit. But no one ever did.

The public has criticized her accent and regarded it as unprofessional. However, there are also some who love Rascoe’s accent and are constantly loving and supporting her.
